Grade 7 Music: Pots, Pans, Spoons, and Electric Drills!
Most 7th grade music classes don't make use of pots, pans, spoons, and electric drills--but ours at Holy Family does!
Inspired by the clever use of everyday items in rhythmic performances by the group "Stomp", the 7th graders have searched their kitchens, garages, and closets to find "instruments" for making organized noise. Their assigned task: perform a rhythm presentation lasting for one minute, using NO musical instruments. Each group also had to turn in a written "score" for the rhythm piece.
The students found the assignment "fun, but hard...". Emilio said, "It was hard to choose materials to use, because there were so many things to choose from." Haleigh said, "Yes, and you didn't want your presentation or your sounds to be like anyone else's." Both agreed that it was "cool" to hear all the different rhythms and kinds of sounds.
Most of all, everyone seemed to enjoy having permission to make a lot of noise!
